Jessie Ross is a blind singer/songwriter living in London Ontario. She is in her forty’s with two and a half decades of musical experience in guitar and vocal performance. From Busking to night clubs and restaurants to local and international music festivals, Jess has done it all.
Some memorable moments include, participating in the VSAarts Festival in Washington DC. and singing the Canadian Anthem for the Paralympic opening ceremony in Athens Greece.
Her older brother James, a piano player graduate from the U of T Jazz music program, and her younger brother Alexander, a singer song writer and bassist, have often collaborated with Jess on musical ventures. At age 26, Jessie wrote and sang for their band, Burning Water, recording a premier concert of her own compositions before the band broke up.
Other musical opportunities continued to come her way. In 2002, Jess and her good friend, Steve Hardy recorded a small album of his original tunes together. “I Can’t go Wrong”, “One Step at a Time” and Whatever Happened?”, are some songs that help capture Jessies unique Jazz vocals in these recordings.
Later on, with London jazz guitarist Ben Heywood and pianist John Noubarian, Jessie sang Heywood’s title track “Believe It”, on their album of original songs.
Among other highlights of her career, one in Particular stands out for Jess, when recounting performing “autumn Leaves” with Jeff Healy and his band in his Toronto Jazz and Blues club. Although Jess graduated from Western as an English major her interest in music led her to take 3 years of Opera voice lessons there. Before that she studied for one year in the Jazz vocal program at U of T.
Recently, Jessie has been writing her own songs again. A creative venture that has found her recording her own original songs at a community studio in the Boys and Girls Club of London Ontario. Jessie’s family and friends have ridden the roller coaster of her musical career, waiting for and celebrating any victories that come Jessie’s way. She doesn’t know what is around the next musical corner, but is always up for new projects Especially now more than ever.
This website was designed and created by Jen Sadler at Jessie’s request. The Goal being to keep record of all recordings that Jess makes and to allow to give Jessie an accessible platform from which to share her voice and her music.
